INVOLVING ALL IN TRANSFORMING CITIES:a declaration and an invitation

Phase One of the Think Tank

In February 2023 I crafted a blog post spotlighting the critical problem of sprawl which, in my opinion, is the greatest threat to a sustainable future.

In that post, I teased the idea of forming an ad-hoc think tank with the purpose of discussing this threat and its potential mitigation with anyone who might be interested in such a collaboration. 

The response was heartening, with an array of individuals from many backgrounds and disciplines expressing interest. We gathered for a series of engaging discussions surrounding sprawl that soon revealed the complexities and challenges of our mission. We recognized that the scope of this issue made any potential discussion of its mitigation a true David vs. Goliath endeavor. Faced with this monumental task, we decided to parse out any attempt at consensus or ‘solution’ over time. 

But we had to start somewhere, so we decided the first step would be to craft a ‘position statement’ that would define our approach. We have presented this in the form of a simple website that I hope you will take the time to explore, and consider adding your name and ideas to our work.

As I’ve always said, ‘together we know more.’
